Minutes from LISC Board Meeting
June 3, 2003
7:30 – 9:00
Present: Mike Wingo, Amy Hall, Trey Bradberry, Ron Hornbaker, Judith Martinez, Garry Sullan, Robert Baird, and Rick Hazlewood
The current U12 team wants to grill hotdogs, hamburgers, and brats for the Fall Cup.
The club is trying move away from Fine Design but we will consider them as well anybody else if the conditions are correct.
There is a problem with one team’s set of trophies from last year’s tournament. The company made a mistake with them and is doing nothing to correct it. It was determined that we should get a set of trophies to the one team as soon as we could.
Judith Martinez reported on her work of approaching the Latino businesses to help sponsor the club. Posters for the club are posted in different restaurants in town. Fliers about tryouts were handed out to Champaign Park District and some schools.
Announcements were sent to all the radio and television stations in town. An ad will be run in conjunction with an article about youth sports that will be in the News-Gazette the week before tryouts. We will also run an ad for several days in the sports page as well.
Supplies and location for registration and tryouts were discussed.
Notifying the players after tryouts was discussed and it was agreed that the children would be notified as soon as possible after the tryouts so we could hold our registration on June 25th.
No one is officially registered until they have made the first installment of the dues. The dues must be paid by August 1st. If the dues are not paid, the players will not be able to attend the skills camp nor start practicing. The second payment of dues must be paid by October 1st. If they are not paid, then their cards may be pulled from the rosters and they will not be able to play anymore.
The reason we need the money in the first half of the season is that many spring tournament entry fees must be paid in advance. The average entry fee for a tournament is 350 dollars or more.
The discussion of fees led to a discussion of family discounts versus scholarships that the club has available. This led to a need for fundraising for such scholarships.
August 11 through August 15th will be the skills camp for the younger kids
August 18 through August 22nd will be the skills camp for the older kids..
Both groups’ sessions will be from 4:30 pm through 6:00 pm.
The Executive Committee will begin reviewing the policies of the team.
The Land committee met in Libertyville during the tournament. They are discussing two land options at this time.
Gary was given permission to buy Quickbooks to help organize the club’s financial records.
Invoices are being created and mailed to those people who have not paid for last year.
The possibility of switching the number of players on the field at any one time came up. There are many ramifications to this switch including the Fall Cup tournament rules having already been approved with U-9’s playing 8v8 at this time.
Not all members of the league have approved of the switches as of the meeting date. At this time, LISC will practice 5 v 5 even if the league does not implement the changes for the fall season.
