Minutes of LISC Executive Committee Meeting of
June 11th, 1999
Present: Scott Anderson, Mike Wingo, Jon Foreman, Seamus Reilly, Jill
Bullington, Rebecca Renwick, Charlie Smyth
Uniforms
A retailer has not yet been chosen. Adidas has offered the club a good deal
on uniforms. August 1 will be the deadline for ordering new uniforms.
Official Opening of Fall Season
The season will get officially under way when practices start between August
1 and August 15. The idea of having some sort of season opening fun event
to pull all teams together as a club was discussed—possibly a picnic/soccer
get-together at Dodds.
Tryouts
July 16 is the last possible tryout. The club will need rosters by July 17,
so letters of acceptance, bills, etc., can be put in the mail immediately.
Presumably, each coach will give Seamus a copy of his/her roster by July 17,
if not before.
U9 and U10 Boys Teams
U9 and U10 boys coaches met after the last coaches' meeting and decided to
go with the idea of having two balanced teams per age group. This seems to
be a compromise between having a very strong premier and very weak classic
team and attempting to form two equal teams.
High School Girls Tryouts
There seems to have been some confusion as to what the tryouts were for: PSG, LISC or both. Some parents also seem to have believed that a girl
previously on a LISC team need not try out again. This is not now and has
not been LISC policy for at least the last 5 years. As this myth seems to
have a life of its own, perhaps it should be addressed in the information
sent out to parents--so that they have it in writing.
Club Tournaments
The idea of having all eligible LISC teams enter two tournaments a year (in
addition to Fall Cup) was discussed once again. The pickings for fall
appear to be slim, insofar as it would be nice to chose a tournament that is
not back to back with Fall Cup and that provides divisions for both boys and
girls. At the moment, the tournament in Lisle in October seems to be the
favorite choice for fall. No official decision has been made yet.
Club Fees
Debate continues over how to share out costs equitably between older and
younger teams and one- versus two-season teams. While it would be ideal to
have one set club fee for all players, the fact that ref fees are significantly higher for older teams must be taken into account. Older
teams, on the other hand, only play one season. Do we set a standard
two-season fee and let younger teams carry part of the older teams’ refs
costs? Do we divide that fee in half for one season teams? These issues
remain unresolved.
Coaches for 1999-2000 Season
Seamus presented a tentative roster of coaches for the upcoming season.
Some slots remain undecided. There will not be several (2-3) U18 girls
teams as originally proposed. Rather there will be one team of the best
caliber players who try out.
Next EC Meeting
The Executive Committee will next meet on Thursday, July 1 at 7:00 PM at
Scott Anderson's house: 2801 Prairie Meadow Dr., Champaign.
